Yeah, we know. We all knew it. It was nice to hear it. I mean, really what is a Star Wars film without Artoo-Detoo?

The Official Star Wars Website has confirmed all of our speculation.

All of this is referring to the picture of Kathleen Kennedy, Abrams, Artoo, and two mystery men. It turns out our original update on last week’s report was true, those two men are indeed Lee Towersey and Oliver Steeples.

It turns out at Star Wars Celebration Europe II, Kathleen was more impressed with the fan base than we thought. She apparently met the Artoo builders at the convention, was impressed with their work and posed for photos with the builders. Oliver Steeples joked that they were available in England:

I mentioned that the R2-D2 Builders in the UK were available if required, as a semi-joke.

Shortly afterward, Episode VII producer Jason McGatlin contacted them and they were on their way to working for the creature shop on Star Wars Episode VII.

So yeah, Artoo is in Episode VII as the Official Star Wars website puts it “he’s fan made.”

Okay, See-Threepio, you’re up!
