Chuck Palahniuk made quite a splash at this year’s Comic-Con in San Diego. Not only did he sign advanced reader’s copies of his upcoming novel Doomed, which won’t be out until October, but he also broke the first rule of “Fight Club” with the news that the story will return in the form of a graphic novel. According to Palahniuk, the plan is a kind of sequel, a series of books that take place ten years after we last left Tyler Durden.

In all likelihood, this project is probably a ways away. Being that “Doomed” is only the second book in a trilogy, we still have another novel on the way, not to mention any other works already in development. Palahniuk also cited some contractual obligations that might hold up the release of the project but his goal of 2015 seems like a realistic expectation.

With the success of “Fight Club” as a novel and the subsequent film, it seems to be a no-brainer to continue the franchise. The idea of a graphic novel, however, does come with some reservations. There’s no doubt that Palahniuk’s imaginative writing lends itself nicely to this artistic form, the question is whether or not he’ll be able to find the balance between the two. Secondly, fans of the film already have visuals of what the characters look like, so will the art reflect the world we know from the film, an altered, updated version or maybe a new version all together? With the news that the project is intended to be serialized it will be interesting to see where Palahniuk will take the story and how quickly fans will be calling for a sequel to the film.
