CONtv Announces More Original Programming, Free 30-Day Trial

Now that CONtv is available, the programming announcements are proceeding. CONtv is a digital network for fans created by Wizard World and Cinedigm that can be watched on iOS, Roku, Android devices, and the web.

The first episode of Bruce Campbell’s Last Fan Standing, their standout original show, can be seen here without having to sign in. It’s entertaining, and there’s already a second episode posted, with new ones coming each Monday. Here’s a sample clip:

Fight of the Living Dead, a “horror/reality series that follows top YouTube celebrities as they struggle to ‘survive’ in a simulated zombie apocalypse”, will release all 11 episodes on Sunday, March 22, for binge viewing. I don’t recognize any of the names involved, but it’s kind of fascinating that it was “shot over the course of two days at Sybil Brand Women’s Prison in Los Angeles”. Here’s that trailer:

Next up: the first of three original movies! Kevin Sorbo stars in Mythica: A Quest For Heroes, a former Kickstarter project, which will premiere March 31. (The other two, Mythica: The Darkspore and Mythica: The Necromancer, will come later this year.) Says production company exec Kynan Griffin, “Mythica captures the thrill of the role-playing game experience: forming an underdog team of disparate heroes to win fortune and glory.”

An escaped servant gets a wizard as a mentor and “rallies a misfit team of adventurers” to save a princess from an ogre. I’m not sure the comparisons — “As an epic fantasy movie series, Mythica follows the tradition of Lord of the Rings, Narnia, and Harry Potter.” — do it any favors, although it is neat to see a female hero leading the pack, and the effects are impressive, as shown in this trailer:

If you want to check out this programming without ads, CONtv is offering 30-day free trials, but you have to provide your email address, wait for an invite, provide your credit card information, and remember to cancel if you don’t want to be charged.
