The other day I posted about how I was excited to watch the new season of some speculative fiction shows on the CW. I have now watched the premiers of the three shows I posted about - Supernatural, Arrow and the Tomorrow People - and I don't quite know what to think.

I want to start by discussing Supernatural. Ok I really liked the premier. I like Tahmoh Penikett and was happy to see him make an appearance. About the only thing I didn't like was the fact that he isn't going to stay around. I loved how they brought Bobby back, for a bit. I love how they brought Death back to reap Sam. I love the direction they are going with Cass's character. I basically loved everything about it (I know, I sound like a crazed fangirl). I don't know what the over-lying story-arc is going to be this season, obviously something about the angels being expelled from heaven and Cass regaining his grace, but I'm not sure how they are going to go about doing it. Although I will admit the season-long story-arcs are my least favorite things about Supernatural. I am more interested in the different type of monsters they hunt, so I hope they come up with a few ones I've never heard of.

The second one I watched was The Tomorrow People (I wasn't able to be home for Arrow when it debuted). It was an interesting premise. I didn't like how the main character was in high school. I thought they were going to go with a slightly older target audience like they did with Arrow. But that was a small issue I was easily able to get over. A bigger issue I had was that all of the tomorrow people have the same three powers: teleportation, telepathy and telekinesis. I was hoping different individuals would have different powers like in most other superpower lore (and where do they get off calling the tomorrow people homo-superior like the mutants in X-men have been called since the 1960's). That is another issue I can get over especially because Stephen showed new powers near the end. My biggest issue has to be the ending. I hate the fact that Stephen decided to work for his uncle who he knows is a bad guy. He kidnapped you, put a bag over your head, tried to take away your powers and tried to kill the guy who told you about your new powers. Obviously that guy is the villain. Stephen claimed he needed to find out what happened to his father, the same guy he didn't give a damn about at the beginning of the episode. They set up the possibility that he may be trying to take down the evil institution from the inside, but I tend not to like those scenarios in entertainment. My final verdict is I will continue watching for now, but it needs to get much more interesting for me to keep watching.

And finally I come to Arrow. With zero knowledge of the comics, everything the show does is a surprise to me. I liked season one and was really excited for season two which has yet to live up to that excitement. I don't like the direction they are going with Oliver's character. He's more broody and now he doesn't want to kill anyone. I really like his whole kill or be killed mentality, but he is not acting that way now because it will dishonor Tommy's memory. I get not wanting to kill people, but he is turning into dumb Batman and going out of his way to save people who are trying to kill him. It annoys me when characters do that. I am really annoyed with Oliver's character right now. However, there were a few bright spots. I love Summer Glau and am excited to see her back on TV. But I think the brightest spot was at the end when we get a glimpse of Black Canary, or whatever they will call her (I haven't read any of the comics but I do know how to look things up on the internet). I hope they will bring Oliver's character back to where it was last season, so I will continue to watch to see how it goes.

Overall, I am excited, but slightly disappointed with what happened. I am still in love with Supernatural. The worst thing that happened while I watched it was I realized it was only one hour long and I would have to wait a whole week until I could watch the next episode. Arrow and The Tomorrow People had more disappointments, but there was enough there to keep me interested for a little longer.
