This week marks the premier of a couple shows I have come to like that happen to be on the CW. I know they are basically known for just showing of good looking people and who cares what they are saying (I mean how sexy is the beast in Beauty and the Beast?) but I really like Supernatural and Arrow, and yes I guess the guys in those shows are sexy as well, but that doesn't mean they can't be good shows.

I want to start off talking about Supernatural. Supernatural is about two brothers named Sam and Dean who drive around the country and "hunt" supernatural creatures. My ex girlfriend watches this show and tried to get me to watch it with her around season 4. I didn't like it because I don't like starting in the middle of something. The first episode I watched was when Sam and Dean investigated a haunting at a school they had attended. There were a lot of references to previous episodes I didn't get, they didn't completely explain the lore, and then they just shoot high school kids with shotguns. It wasn't until I watched the show from the beginning that I realized they didn't kill the kids they had shot. And yes I am glad they don't re-explain the lore every episode, that would get to lengthy.

Now that I went back and watched every episode from the beginning I love the show. I am a bit of a nerd as well as a total geek so my favorite part of the show is all the lore they mix in with all of the mythological creatures they feature. Because of this show I know what a wendigo, rougarou, changeling and many many other creatures are. But, it's not just the lore that gets me. The chemistry between Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles is amazing. I can believe they are actual brothers, if I ignore the homosexual undertones to their relationship. But, the show can make fun of that. It is so good at making fun of itself and not taking itself too seriously it is refreshing. My favorite example of this is when they go to the Supernatural Books convention and someone asks them why don't they tie the weapons to their arms so they stop dropping them like they always do and I believe it was Sam that turned to Dean and was like "That's a good idea. Why don't we do that?"

While I really enjoy both of those things about the show, maybe the thing I enjoy most is how the writers are able to keep it fresh. Yes they kill off Sam and Dean regularly and bring them back which is something I don't like, but the rest of the characters come and go in how I would think people in their line of work would. Some are good and stick around awhile. Some aren't and die off quickly. I recommend Supernatural to everyone.

The other show I am really excited to see the next season of is Arrow. Now for all the comic fanatics I need to make one thing clear: I've never read a Green Arrow comic. The closest thing I've come to is reading Miller's The Dark Knight Returns which doesn't really count. So there may be some hardcore fans out there that hate the show for something it got wrong, but I am oblivious to that which makes me more of the shows target audience.

I like how Green Arrow is not like Batman in the fact that he refuses to take a life. He kills people pretty liberally which is not a good thing from a hero but they are all bad people, so he's like an '80s action movie star, and looking at Stallone and Schwarzenegger he may be around for awhile. I like the flashbacks to the island to show how he learned what he knows. It nice to get the information in increments instead of all at once. It also gives the show another story-line to work with. I also really like the cast. I was a big fan of Katie Cassidy, Colin Salmon and Paul Blackthorne before the show started, and the rest of the cast hasn't disappointed. It has great action sequences but doesn't rely on them solely for the episode's entertainment. Season one was great and I can't wait to see what they do for season two.

And finally one show I am looking forward to seeing is The Tomorrow People. It's the newest speculative fiction show that doesn't have to deal with vampires. It's going to be on after Arrow and star Stephen Amell's relative Robbie. I like some of the other actors that are going to be in the show such as Peyton List and Mark Pellegrino. It looks like it might be good, but if I like it, it probably won't last.
