I have no idea why it took this long to do a Scooby-Doo/Batman team-up comic, given how weird the match is but how well it works. Anyway, now we have Scooby-Doo Team-Up, a kids’ comic with adult appeal. Issue #2 features the Mystery Machine kids and the Dark Knight meeting up with the Mystery Analysts of Gotham City (who date from the 1960s) in a story by Sholly Fisch and illustrated by Dario Brizuela. It includes these three pages, my favorite, as Batman’s pet Ace the Bat-Hound teaches scaredy Scooby how to suit up. (Click to enlarge.)
As you can see, the sequence ends with a Dark Knight Returns lightning-bolt-sillhouetted panel. That’s what I mean about adults finding things to like in this comic, too, although you don’t have to recognize the references to enjoy the comic. The dogs save the day because Scarecrow’s fear gas doesn’t work on them, while all the humans are distracted by fighting imaginary monsters they’re afraid of.
The next issue, out in early March, features everyone’s favorite wacky Batman character, Bat-Mite, plus the promise of Scooby-Mite!
