The original 'Poltergeist' cast.
According to the 'The Wrap,' Sam Rockwell is the new Craig T. Nelson in Sam Raimi's 'Poltergeist' remake. What was once rumor is now confirmed. The 'Poltergeist' remake is a definite "go." They've already announced that Rosemarie DeWitt will be the new JoBeth Williams. Gil Kenan, director of 'Monster House,' (yes 'Monster House') will direct. No other cast has been rumored or confirmed.

That's all well and good, but we do we really need a remake of this great film and its unfortunate, yet crappy sequels? I've had the pleasure of rewatching this classic film in all its 80s awesomeness. The original 'Poltergeist' still stands the test of time. Isn't that what's important? There are some movies that could do to be remade, but this isn't one of them.

Considering the plethora of freshly baked horror movies like 'Insidious,' 'The Conjuring,' and the 'Paranormal Activity' franchise, can't someone come up with something new? Lastly, according to Bloody Disgusting, there will be no Zelda Rubinstein-like character. Yes, the original Zelda has long since departed this world, but what would 'Poltergeist' have been without a four foot tall, sassy, crazed psychic? This isn't looking good.

The new film will hit theaters in late 2014/early 2015. What do you think? Sound off.
