Late for Dinner is a 1991 science fiction movie (but focused on relationships instead of technology) that is the answer to a trivia question. W.D. Richter, the director of The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension, only ever directed one other movie. It’s this one.
It’s the story of two brothers (played by Brian Wimmer and Peter Berg) from 1961 who accidentally get frozen and wake up 30 years later. One has left behind a wife (Marcia Gay Harden) and daughter, and a large part of the appeal of the movie for me — from what I remember of it — is how they have to relearn to interact with each other. It’s a small, sweet movie that no one seems to have heard of.
Anyway, it’s coming out on Blu-ray in April from Kino Video. I’m not sure many people remember the film, or will seek it out, but I wanted to make brief mention of it.
