Cody and Rex by El Niphrendil

Today’s spotlight is on El Niphrendil!

El Niphrendil has been around the Tumblr Star Wars fan community since September 2014 and she has been a deviant for the past six years, publishing fan art related to Star Wars: The Clone Wars. As a clone trooper fangirl, she creates various clone trooper characters with their own personalities and characteristics. Her latest artwork features troopers Boost and Sinker in an Assassin’s Creed crossover. My absolute favorite pieces include Ahsoka Tano practicing the Force on Captain Rex and Commander Cody caring after Captain Rex, a piece created for Tumblr’s BroTP Week.

You can find more of her artwork on Tumblr and deviantART.

Tell us about yourself.
I’m a Hungarian university student (Bachelor of Arts) with endless energy. I have stories chasing each other in my head all day long. I want to be a writer, but I could never really decide between my two passions: drawing and writing. I’ll work under the name: El Niphrendil or Neva Waveharp.

When and how did you become a Star Wars fan?
I watched the old trilogy as a kid as well as the new trilogy. I had a Star Wars fan phase back in high school, but that faded away until I started The Clone Wars animated series. That tied me forever to the Star Wars universe and gave me everything I needed. I’ve never seen a more beautifully built, emotionally full show in my entire life. And the clones…do I need to say more?

What tools do you use to create your art?
I usually work with Adobe Photoshop and my tiny Bamboo tablet. I also recently went back to drawing on paper because I want to improve my skills.

What is your favorite Star Wars piece that you have created and why are you fond of it?

My favorite so far is my first Clone Wars themed drawing about drunk Dogma. That is where my fan artist life started, and it brings back so many nostalgic feelings. They were my first clone face tries and I am pretty satisfied with them.

What’s the best and worst thing about being an artist?
The best thing is when you see that your art inspired someone or brought a smile on their face. Or even more, when you can ignite deep feelings with a single piece of art. The worst part is that I draw out my emotions as well, and after I draw or write a lot, I feel like I’m drained and empty. And the feeling that “this will never be good enough” is always there. The want “to be better” can be exhausting sometimes.

Star Wars Rebels is currently in its first season. What are your thoughts? How do you think the series will progress?
So far, I’m enjoying it, and I’m curious about what the makers will do with it. I had my doubts with some of the characters, like Ezra and Sabine, but I was amazed by Hera and Zeb. This show has a lot of potential in it, but it looks like the makers can’t decide if they want to make it more serious, like The Clone Wars, or stay a purely kid show with smooth animation.

Are you looking forward to the future Star Wars films? After watching the teaser trailer for The Force Awakens, what are your hopes or worries?
I am definitely looking forward to Star Wars: The Force Awakens. I trust J.J. Abrams’ skills. I’m a little afraid that they might venture too far from the original feeling, but I hope they won’t. The trailer indicated that they will keep everything that would be needed to get back into the Star Wars universe without a problem.

How else do you express your love for Star Wars (cosplay, fanfiction, etc.)?
I usually write fanfiction, and I started some about The Clone Wars. And starting with next year, I want to try out cosplaying too (maybe Luke Skywalker). I do different handmade stuffs about Star Wars, like Star Wars themed gingerbread, jewelry, etc.

Any final thoughts?
Star Wars is something that will stay by your side through your entire life. You can have it as a child, as an adult, and you can watch your kids getting into it too. It can really be a lifestyle, and I can’t imagine my life without knowing the franchise. It is simply part of me and my family.
