Today’s spotlight is on Raikoh! You can find him on deviantART and Tumblr.
I discovered Raikoh on Tumblr around the time when Star Wars: The Clone Wars came to an end back in May. One of my biggest concerns about the end of the series was the future of Barriss Offee. Was she sentenced to death? Is she just sitting in a prison cell? Since her story was changed from what was originally written in the expanded universe, I was very concerned for my favorite character. Raikoh’s 6-part comic featuring Barriss Offee and a mysterious figure, however, gave me the solace I needed.
Raikoh has a beautifully sleek style and a wonderful skill for storytelling. To read the complete “Barriss Story,” click through the following: Part I, Part II, Part III, Part IV, Part V, and Part VI.
Tell us about yourself.
I’m just a guy, who enjoys to draw and paint about many things, fandoms included. And of course, one such fandom is Star Wars.
When and how did you become a Star Wars fan?
That’s an interesting question. I do remember that the very first Star Wars movie I saw was The Empire Strikes Back way back in the early 90s. While I didn’t understand much of the story back then, I liked seeing the action sequences, and of course the lightsaber battles. And I liked watching the movies, though, I didn’t really consider myself a fan back then. That is, until I saw for the first time the Tartakovsky Clone Wars 2D animated shorts. That’s when I finally realized I was hooked on Star Wars.
What tools do you use to create your art?
There have been many tools that I have used for art, including oils, watercolors, acrylic, and pastels in the real world. And in the digital world, I use the most common programs: Photoshop, Paint Tool SAI, and a few other programs.
Ahsoka and Barriss Gaming Time by Raikoh
What is your favorite Star Wars piece that you have created and why are you fond of it?
Gosh, that is something really hard to pick. There are many I am fond of and many that I think I could have done a better job, but I think that’s a common thing among artists to feel about their works, I suspect. Still, a recent work of mine that I am fond of would be “Ahsoka and Barriss Gaming Time.”
What’s the best and worst thing about being an artist?
That I have so many ideas for pictures, but often I don’t have the time to do them all, or I don’t feel good enough to make them.
Are you looking forward to the future Star Wars films? What are your hopes or worries?
I certainly am. From what I have heard about it, I think Disney has chosen the right director to help bring in this new sequel trilogy, and I can’t wait for the return of Luke, Leia, Han, and others form the OT on the big screen. And I hope the new younger characters, that are said to be the main ones for this trilogy, bring in something new and interesting to the world of Star Wars.
Any final thoughts?
Well, I’d like say thanks for giving me this chance of being a featured artist to your site.
