Barriss Flower Crown by PurpleWillowTrees

Today’s spotlight is on Tamara T.!

Tamara has been part of the Star Wars fan community on Tumblr since 2012, taking up the name Mrs-Willow-Kenobi and sharing her love of Obi-Wan and Star Wars: The Clone Wars on a regular basis. She’s also been a Deviant for two years, keeping her deviantART active with sketches of her favorite characters. In June, she created Star Wars: The Clone Wars character cut-outs based on the Paper Child meme and they’re absolutely adorable.

Tell us about yourself.
My name is Tamara. I go under the name PurpleWillowsTrees and Mrs-Willow-Kenobi on the majority of my sites. I’m a 17 year old A-Level student living in the south of England who dabbles in both writing and art.

When and how did you become a Star Wars fan?
When I was 10/11, my dad introduced me to Star Wars through A New Hope and I’ve been fixed ever since!

What tools do you use to create your art?
I mostly work in the digital art media now, using Fire-Alpaca. However, I do still draw many of my sketches traditionally.

What is your favorite Star Wars piece that you have created and why are you fond of it?
I do have many favourite pieces in the works I have done, but for some reason, I choose “Ahsoka Tano (Speed Draw)“. I am fond of this piece of art, even though I know I have done others that are better and that have been received a better reception, but I feel as though there is something that is rather satisfying about it! If I could say another though, I would also like to be able to make mention of “Why are you holding me back, human?

What’s the best and worst thing about being an artist?
I believe the best thing about being an artist is the idea that you can let your imagination run free on paper, and generally, no one should judge you for what you draw because it is what you wish to draw that counts.

The worst thing about being an artist, however, is the amount of self-doubt I give myself when drawing. I want to be a great artist, but I see others and feel as though I cannot step to their level and I feel a great disappointment in myself in the fact that I will not be able to achieve the goals I wish to in art.

Star Wars Rebels is currently in its first season. What are your thoughts? How do you think the series will progress?
I am thoroughly enjoying the show, to my surprise. At first, I did feel cautious about it, seeing as I’ve always been a big Clone Wars fan, but the show is excellent. I’m hoping the series will progress to have a deeper development in the character of Hera, and the introduction of older characters, such as Ahsoka Tano.

Are you looking forward to the future Star Wars films? After watching the teaser trailer for The Force Awakens, what are your hopes or worries?
I am most certainly looking forward to The Force Awakens now that I have seen the trailer. I felt cautious at the idea of new Star Wars films, but now I do feel more optimistic about the development and hope they will be as good as my expectations hope them to be!

How else do you express your love for Star Wars (cosplay, fanfiction, etc.)?
I express my love for Star Wars through writing fanfiction, which I have now been doing for several years and seems to prove somewhat popular in some areas of the community. I also dabble in cosplay–my latest being Ahsoka Tano at MCM London October.

Any final thoughts?
Thank you for reading my awkward information about myself!

Thank you, Tamara, for sharing such lovely information about yourself! We all have our different styles and approaches to art, and I truly think you have something really special. “Barriss Flower Crown”, as pictured above, is my absolute favorite because it looks like it’s a painting meant for a hall in a Star Wars museum. I know we fall back on comparing ourselves to others all too often, but keep striving to be the artist you want to be. You’re young, and I know that with more practice and perseverance, you’ll get to where you want to be one day. May the Force be with you, Tamara!
