Stacking The Shelves and Mailbox Monday are a pair of weekly memes that are about sharing the books that came your way over the past week, and which you've added to your shelves - whether they be physical or virtual, borrowed or bought, or for pleasure or review.
One last serious indulgence of the review pile for while, since I really want to strike a better balance between upcoming titles and my personal TBR shelves, but each of these struck a nerve or hit a particular niche.

Tunnel Visions by Kurt KammPublished May 2nd 2014 by MCM Publishing
Working 5 miles inside a Los Angeles water tunnel in 1971, Willie Carter was one of 17 men killed in a methane explosion in what became known as the Sylmar Tunnel disaster. Tunnel Visions, a work of faction, blends fact and fiction, weaving together the historical facts of the Sylmar disaster, the current struggle for control over California's diminishing water supply, and a fictional plot to attack Los Angeles' water system. Nick Carter, Willie Carter's son, is a firefighter trained in tunnel rescue operations. His fiance, Cindi, is an ATF Special Agent. On a Sunday in 2014, they are swept up in a massive Homeland Security response to a terror alert in Los Angeles. At the end of Tunnel Visions, when Nick makes a desperate entry into a gas-filled Sylmar Tunnel access shaft in an attempt to save Cindi and prevent an explosion, his past and present are brought together in an unexpected way.
Whom the Gods Would Destroy by Brian HodgePublished December 10th 2013 by DarkFuse
For Damien, growing up was all about being an outsider in his own home. His mother and brother shared an unfathomable bond that left him excluded from their lives. Yet his earliest, fragmentary memory of them was so nightmarish, their lives were something he ran from as soon as he could.
Now an astronomy graduate student in Seattle, Damien is happy with his place as a speck in a cosmos vast beyond comprehension. Until his brother turns up after 13 years, to make amends and seek his expertise on a discovery that may not be of this Earth. The more the world expands to admit the possibilities of a universe stranger than even Damien has imagined, the greater is his urgency to resist being reclaimed by a past that never seemed to want him…until now.
Like a collision of galaxies between H.P. Lovecraft and Carl Sagan, Whom the Gods Would Destroy looks to the night skies as the source of our greatest wonder, and finds them swarming with our worst fears.

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? is another weekly meme, this time focused on what books are spending the most time in your hands and in your head, as opposed to what's been added to your shelf.
With an eye towards my scheduled reviews for the next few weeks, I'm currently turning pages with:
Historical fiction about a serial killer, a plague, and a culture of excess - written by a fellow Canadian.• Jani and the Greater Game by Eric Brown A rip-roaring, spice-laden, steampunk action adventure series featuring a heroine who subverts all the norms. Sounds great.• Fool's Assassin by Robin Hobb Fitz and Fool are back! I've been sitting on this forever, waiting for closer to the release date to post a review, but I'm done waiting - time to get reading!.
What's topping your shelves this week?
