The Man at Arms YouTube series knows how to time their weapon recreations. This past summer, they built Wolverine’s claws right around the time The Wolverine movie came out. This weekend, we’re treated to Thor: The Dark World, opening November 8, so Man at Arms is building a replica of Mjölnir, Thor’s hammer.
Cosplayers will find the various measurements given for the replica’s size helpful in crafting their own, non-steel versions. I hadn’t thought about the details of film-making, but knowing that even a hollow replica would weigh 20 pounds gave me new appreciation for Chris Hemsworth’s muscles. And hearing how they planned to fake people not being able to lift it (unless they’re worthy, or in this case, really strong) was funny. Of course, at the end, they smash things with it. Watch for the little Loki to go flying!
