Once Humans By
Massimo Marino, a terrific author. His first book
Daimones I read in one day. I highly recommend you treat yourself to these books.
The trilogy is a post-apocalyptic story where the human race has been culled by one of the dominant races in the galaxy. In Vol.1 we are presented with a silent but deadly invasion that leaves the few survivors befuddled, wary, and broken.
In “Once Humans”, mankind is undergoing rebirth, the new arrivals closely watched by the Selected: the transgenic beings created by the Moîrai. The new communities thrive with the aliens’ support and peace and security reign on Eridu, as the planet Earth is known by the Moîrai and in the galaxy. But peace and security of the cradle are suddenly shattered by acts of sabotage set to disrupt the fragile balance of the fledgling communities.
The story reveals a cosmic conspiracy full of betrayal and fear, being hatched with the hope of pushing the world perilously close to the brink of self-destruction.
REVIEWS
5.0 out of 5 stars Powerfully written, September 6, 2013
Another fantastic book from Massimo Marino.
Powerfully written as the continued evolution of the Selected unfolds. Dan is awakened to further abilities and is accepted into the realm of the Keepers.
A great struggle occurs between the Selected and the Moirai against the Kritas and the humans that they have implanted.
Dan must be prepared to lose his life in order to end this conflict!! As always, a wonderful book and I eagerly await book three.
5.0 out of 5 stars Humans, aliens and betrayal, July 10, 2013
Having read part 1, Daimones, getting Once Human was a must. As if waking up to a global human culling and learning to survive with the aid of the alien instigators wasn’t bad enough (see Daimones (Daimones Trilogy)) Dan, our first person narrator and evolving Eridu (Earth) leader, finds out that all wasn’t a simple plan to prevent humanity from destroying itself, again! Intrigue and betrayal are the central themes to keep you on the edge of your seat in this volume. Dan learns of another alien race interfering with Eridu’s progress and turning many of the spared one’s against Dan and his people. Intergalactic espionage makes the success of the human experiment doubtful and Dan is troubled by what that experiment really is.
Once Human was not a disappointment. Massimo’s clever ability to intertwine many elements of a story together provides the reader with an exciting journey. We are taken on a ride to secret hidden alien bases on Earth, far away alien planets and we are indulged in want-to-have advanced technology. Dan is constantly battling for the rights of humans to master their own destiny and to save the turned spared ones. But there is also a very personal side revealed as Dan has his inner battles and relationships to contend with. I really enjoyed reading this book and I am sure the third volume of the trilogy will be no less a brilliant story. The author leaves a few threads untied and the intrigue is bound to continue. Well worth five stars as a hard-to-put-down book
