Star Wars Doodles is one of those fun and whimsical books I wish I had as a kid. I’ve always been a big fan of coloring books and spent many hours in college coloring away at the pages. This isn’t your ordinary coloring book, though. Star Wars Doodles combines drawing, coloring, and using our ingenuity to create wild and crazy designs. From creating Yoda’s hairstyle and Wilhuff Tarkin’s mustache to giving Jabba a tattoo, writer and illustrator Zack Giallongo encourages children (and adults) to tap into their deep wells of creativity and imagination.
Younger fans who took pleasure in watching the popular Disney XD series Star Wars Rebels and who connect with the artist of the rebel crew, Sabine Wren, will also find joy in this book, since she’s all about expressing herself through art. The instructions on one page in particular immediately reminded me of Sabine, “Decorate this Stormtrooper’s helmet any way you like!”
So I did! For those who like to approach this book in a craftier way, you can use tracing paper (or printer paper and a light box) to trace the image and add different designs along the way, leaving the original image untouched to use over again. Or, in the case of Jabba, give him a different tattoo every time you open the book!
Adults who pass up on these kinds of books on the excuse that it’s too kiddy or solely meant for kids are missing out on the therapeutic qualities of taking 30 minutes out of one’s busy schedule and breaking out the crayons. It not only helps tap into your creative side, but it also brings you back to a time when you were a kid.
Star Wars Doodles is all kinds of awesome and definitely a must-have for the younger crowd looking to draw more Star Wars in their lives. Purchase your copy today!
