Shout! Factory’s Scream Factory imprint is apparently wandering through the dark corners of my 80s HBO memories, as their newest Blu-ray announcement is another sleek time capsule.
Cat People
Due out January 21 is a Blu-ray Collector’s Edition of Cat People, the 1982 Paul Schrader remake starring Nastassja Kinski as a woman cursed to turn into a panther at the worst possible time. Malcolm McDowell, John Heard, and Annette O’Toole co-star. To remind us, yes, it was the 80s, the music is by Giorgio Moroder.
Typical of Shout!’s feature-packed cult releases, this disc is promised to have “new interviews with writer/director Paul Schrader, Nastassja Kinski, Malcolm McDowell, John Heard, Annette O’Toole, Lynn Lowry, and composer Giorgio Moroder” as well as the trailer and art gallery. Preorders from Shout!’s website will also get an 18″x24″ poster of the new artwork while supplies last.
Also out that day is Die Monster Die, a 1965 movie I am much less familiar with. It stars Boris Karloff, though, and it’s described as “a loose adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s short story ‘The Colour Out of Space’”.
