Sequel trilogy could start filming next year

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LLTiUBd7jew/UQPGKuPJ1RI/AAAAAAAABH0/NrBpekvjU4I/s1600/star-wars-vii-has-its-director-jj-abrams.jpg In an interview with Deadline, director J.J. Abrams said that the 'Star Wars' sequel trilogy could start filming in 2014 in London.

The atmosphere among fans during shooting is sure to be interesting. I'm reminded of Henry Jenkins' book Convergence Culture and his chapter on Survivor Spoilers, fans whose main interaction with the reality show Survivor was to find out who won before the season aired. People used GPS tracking and travelled to find out where the show was taking place and what challenges were likely to be involved. Abrams will have a lot of eyes on his shoot trying to find out what the next Star Wars movie will look like  and whether it appears to be what they want.

Star Wars news will certainly speed up, and along with it entire subgroups who latch on to certain scenes or characters. Some fan fiction writers start before the canon even airs, and there'll surely be some revisionist fic trying to connect the Expanded Universe with whatever continuity breaks the sequel trilogy creates.

Then there's the personalities behind the cameras: I was happy with J.J. Abrams until the latest Star Trek film received mixed reviews and a pretty unanimous slamming of its treatment of science officer Carol Markus. The scene was added by a writer who later apologized, but Abrams didn't stop him.

There's no word yet on whether there are going to be set diaries or any behind-the-scenes updates for the sequels like there were on the prequels, but fans are sure to find out as much as possible about the trilogy that, once, was never going to happen.
