A day prior to its television debut, Disney Channels Worldwide ordered a second season for the widely praised series Star Wars Rebels. Both critics and fans have responded with positive and genuinely heartwarming comments, resulting in an early renewal. Talks of executive producer Greg Weisman not returning for the next season started to float around again, but the topic had surfaced earlier in the summer via Big Shiny Robot. The official Star Wars post states, “The creative team behind the second season of Star Wars Rebels includes Executive Producers Simon Kinberg and Dave Filoni, and Co-Executive Producer and Supervising Writer Henry Gilroy.”
Personally, I suspect Weisman is looking to have more time to work on his book series, Rain of the Ghosts. He’s also dropped hints of working on a separate project with more information to be revealed at New York Comic Con.
If you are a verified subscriber, “Droids in Distress” is now available for an advanced preview on the WATCH Disney XD app and site. No matter how you intend to view it, I highly recommend watching it when it airs and commenting on social media to demonstrate your support!
The Inquisitor vs. Kanan Jarrus in USA Today
The Inquisitor and Kanan clash in the latest clip from USA Today. The clip is from “Rise of the Old Masters,” an episode that was shown at the Star Wars Rebels NYC press screening I attended. Though he appears briefly in Star Wars Rebels: Spark of Rebellion, he appears for the first time in the flesh during this episode. Not only does he have an intimidating presence, but he is quite skilled, knowledgeable, and able to determine every single detail of his opponent through simple observations. He is the type of villain that plays mind games with you, and I can’t wait to see more of him!
USA Today also published a brief article and video that featured executive producer Dave Filoni and CG supervisor Joel Aron discussing the look and feel of the lightsabers, specifically from the old trilogy and Star Wars Rebels.
Sabine Wren and Hera Syndulla in The Wrap
Meanwhile, the clip of Sabine and Hera that originally premiered back in WonderCon 2014 finally made its way to the public via The Wrap. In it, Sabine and Hera encounter an overwhelming number of nocturnal creatures in an old Republic base. Needless to say, I went full fangirl when I saw the Republic gunship in the background.
