Two Sabine Wren Halloween Costumes

With certain merchandise excluding the leading females from Star Wars Rebels (see twin comforter set, plush blanket, and Disney shirts) and toy companies marketing Star Wars as a boys’ brand, it’s quite shocking to find not one but two Sabine Wren costumes. After all, Star Wars was made for boys, right? Spirit Halloween and Party City brings us two different costumes of the Mandalorian and explosives expert from the highly anticipated animated series. Both costumes include the jumpsuit and mask. The Spirit Halloween costume, however, comes with a belt, while the Party City costume comes with shoulder pads. Both items are officially licensed by Lucasfilm and are priced at $29.99. Here’s hoping a Hera Syndulla costume shows up soon!

First Approved Sabine Wren in The Rebel Legion

Speaking of Sabine, congratulations to Liz Perales of Rogue Rebels for becoming the Rebel Legion‘s first approved Star Wars Rebels character! Liz and her family love to dress up as their favorite Star Wars characters, showcasing their costuming talents and contributing to the Star Wars community. You can view Liz’s profile as Sabine Wren over at the Rebel Legion site, which includes a brief summary of the character and high resolution pictures of Liz’s costume.

Subway’s Join the Rebellion with Star Wars Rebels

Make way for another round of congratulations! Many thanks to Subway and the marketing team that consulted with Lucasfilm for not excluding the two leading female characters from Star Wars Rebels. Though Ezra and Zeb are not present, you can find Ezra and Zeb in plenty of other merchandise (see Ezra and Zeb statues, Ezra mask, Ezra plush toy, Zeb plush toy, Ezra action figure–oh and let’s not forget the twin comforter set, plush blanket, and Disney shirts. I, however, can’t find those same products for Sabine and Hera because they don’t exist.) According to Star Wars Report, Subway Kids will have a new line of FreshFit Kids Meal bags to promote Star Wars Rebels.

JAKKS Pacific Star Wars Rebels Line

Get ready for the new JAKKS Pacific line of Star Wars Rebels giant figures featuring Kanan Jarrus, Ezra Bridger, Zeb Orrelios, the Inquisitor, random Stomtrooper, and random TIE Fighter pilot.

That’s right. You can get this female-less line later this fall at a variety of retailers, including Walmart, Target, Kmart, and Toys “R” Us. These giant figures are labeled “Wave 1,” so I assume there will be a second wave at some point with Sabine Wren and Hera Syndulla. I am quite disappointed that neither leading lady was included in the first wave. It just proves, once again, that male-targeted merchandise goes through extreme efforts to exclude female characters. One merely has to look at the “Where’s Gamora?” and “We Want Leia” campaigns to see the archaic trends in marketing.

Disney Insider and Star Wars Rebels Art Director Kilian Plunkett

Disney Insider caught up with Star Wars Rebels art director Kilian Plunkett to talk about how the new animated series draws inspiration from Ralph McQuarrie’s art.

We’re going back to the source, to the stuff that inspired George Lucas and the people that made all the props and effects for the original movies, before the movies were even made. We’re going all the way back to the raw visual language of shapes and silhouettes that, because Ralph is so integral to what the movies look like, will feel very familiar to fans.

Zeb Orrelios Short Preview from The Hollywood Reporter

The latest Star Wars Rebels character preview came to us from The Hollywood Reporter. Zeb Orrelios, the muscle of the group based on an old Ralph McQuarrie design of Chewbacca, lands himself into trouble with a group of stormtroopers. The full 3-minute short will premiere Monday, August 25, at 9:29pm on Disney XD. THR also mentioned Billy Dee Williams as part of the voice cast. As noted by Rebel Transmission, it’s the first time his name appears in connection to the series outside of conventions and interviews.

Secrets of the Star Wars Rebels Video Reveals

Toys “R” Us has been revealing new and familiar Star Wars Rebels weapons, vehicles, and characters. Last week, Chopper‘s secrets were released, summarizing the astromech’s capabilities and personality. Today, the Empire’s AT-AT was revealed. Though only footage from The Empire Strikes Back was shown, does the CGI model mean that we’ll see an AT-AT in Star Wars Rebels?

Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 6 DVD/Blu-ray in November?

Jedi Bibliothek pointed the way to recent DVD and Blu-ray listings for Star Wars: The Clone Wars season 6 in Amazon.de. The last season of the Emmy Award winning series premiered on Netflix after it was announced that the show would come to an end. The DVD and Blu-ray are scheduled to be released on November 20, 2014. Could this also be the date for a US/Canada release? It would be ideal, since the date is close to the holiday season. Stay tuned as more news develops!
