July is only few short days away, and with a general release date of October 2014, that means Star Wars Rebels is three months closer. Sources of new information will continue to appear until the premiere, with the usual suspects being books and toys. Recently, however, the latest revelation comes from a French trailer promoting the animated series. Containing footage we previously saw in the full trailer unveiled on May the Fourth, this low quality version also includes a scene featuring Obi-Wan Kenobi as a hologram.
Obi-Wan Kenobi’s connection to Star Wars Rebels emerged when Dan Curto of Sandtroopers.com captured a preview of the figure lineup for Hasbro’s Saga Legends and Mission Series, which included a “Rebels Obi-Wan Kenobi” figure. MakingStarWars.net further revealed that Kenobi would take part in the Rebels pilot as a hologram recording, which has now been confirmed by the French trailer. Through the investigative efforts of Rebels Report, Pete Morrison also discovered more details about the scene by returning to an earlier Star Wars Rebels video featuring executive producer Greg Weisman.
It appears that the scene in the french trailer is something we have seen in the Greg Weisman intro trailer. http://t.co/qfOOlY9NQt
As demonstrated above, the storyboard lays out the scene with Ezra, the holocron, and Obi-Wan Kenobi’s recording shining brightly (top middle panel). Obi-Wan also says “May the Force be with you” in the trailer, which many have assumed to be the closing to the message Obi-Wan left behind for other Jedi in Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. We know that Kanan is in possession of a holocron, and the holocron itself seems to be the source of this message. How Kanan came to possess the holocron and what he intends to do with it remain unknown.
With the Star Wars Rebels: The Visual Guide set to be released on July 21, we may see the holocron’s (and maybe even Obi-Wan Kenobi’s) appearance and significance in the guide itself.
