On November 6, 2014, the official title of the seventh Star Wars installment was announced as Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The title reveal also came with the official word that the crew has completed principal photography (the phase of film production when the movie is filmed with the actors on set and the cameras rolling).

Prior to the announcement, rumors of a trailer surfaced recently via Jordan Maison, Cinelinx’s Editor-In-Chief. If the rumor turns out to be true, we could see a teaser in a future Disney film.

When Star Wars: Episode VII and the sequel trilogy were announced in 2012, fans took to forums and social media to share possible movie titles. One fan, TheForce.net forum member Queen Gimmedala, correctly guessed the Episode VII title on December 18, 2012. For more on what she had to say, visit Club Jade.

It’s not as vague as The Phantom Menace was at one point, but the title does pose a few questions. Was the Force not a factor during the 30 or so years between Return of the Jedi and the sequel film? Did Luke Skywalker not continue mastering the ways of the Force? Or is the Force awakening within a specific individual, someone coming to the realization that they have Force abilities? That’s what happened to Ezra Bridger, the main protagonist in Star Wars Rebels, after meeting Kanan Jarrus. One thing is certain, the title is a reflection of this new era of Star Wars. After all, the Force awakens once more ten years after Revenge of the Sith debuted in theaters.

The title itself has a different font. Yakface pointed out that the new font is ITC Serif Gothic Heavy, for those who are interested in replicating it for graphics and such.

As for the fan community celebrating the momentous occasion, several artists and graphic designers turned to their talents and expressed their joy using various styles.

Artist Michael Cohen (@Arkwulf) created a vintage version of the title, stating, “I feel like some folks are having a hard time adjusting to the title of the new Star Wars movie, in particular the fact that they’re dropping the ‘Episode VII’ part, so I whipped this up for everyone to help them see the potential.” (via Tumblr)
