Star Wars Weekends is officially underway. Thousands showed up to kick off the event, starting with the brave few setting up camp late Thursday night, May 15. Here is a collection of my favorite tweets and Instagram photos visually detailing the event on its first day.

I can’t express how much I adore these fabulous ladies. They inspire me to be better at what I do and to be proud of who I am. Tricia and Teresa from Fangirls Going Rogue are prime examples of confident women leading the fangirl community and bringing awareness to diversity and equality. Vanessa Marshall, much like Ashley Eckstein, is a gift to the Star Wars community. She’s so passionate towards her career and the people who surround her. I’m so glad to have met her and that I remain in communication with her. All three women are truly inspirational, and I look forward to supporting them in their future projects.

Thank you for including me in your tweet, Vanessa! It made me fangirl flail!

Seriously!? This is Sumner! He loves Ahsoka! Don't we all?!? @HerUniverse #swwfinale #starwarsweekends!! http://t.co/8toBP2f94s

I really love how this young fan chose to express his love for Ahsoka. His passion for the character clearly trumped traditional gender stereotypes. Don’t be afraid to show what you love!

Tricia Barr (@fangirlcantina) May 16, 2014

I definitely fangirled over this tweet from Tricia Barr! I am a proud shipper through and through, so the possibility of a Kanan and Hera romance sets my fangirl heart a flutter. When you get the chance, check out my new Tumblr blog, KananHera.

Exclusive #StarWarsRebels clip shows just how awesome chopper really is!

Teresa Delgado (@icecoldpenguin) May 16, 2014

In addition to Tricia’s tweet about Kanan and Hera, Chopper also made an appearance. I can’t wait to see this clip!
