It’s not Xena’s chakram or Tron’s identity disc, but the Imperial Inquisitor’s double-sided lightsaber does bear a similar feature. Surrounding the hilt is a round attachment. Whether this piece comes off and becomes a weapon of its own remains unclear, but it does play a part in offensive and defensive maneuvers.

I can’t speak from fighting experience, but I will now turn to Gosei Sentai Dairanger, a Japanese live-action television whose elements were adapted into the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. The Dairangers possessed weapons that had the chakram feature embedded into the hilt.

The following video highlights a particular section (beginning at 15:00), where you see the weapon in action. If you’ve never seen Dairangers or Power Rangers, prepare to be amazed. (On a side note, I am a big fan of Ninja Storm, Dino Thunder, S.P.D., Mystic Force, and RPM. Good times!)

We don’t know what the Inquisitor’s fighting style will look like (let’s hope it’s not inspired by Power Rangers), but I expect to see many cool and memorable fighting scenes by this time next year.

UPDATE, 10/27/13:

Re-watched the Star Wars Rebels: The Empire Returns video again and spotted the following in the background. I can’t say for sure, but it appears that the circle around the hilt folds down in half. What I would give to be a fly on that wall.
