The New StarWars.com: The Official Site Gets a Major Overhaul

suvudu, website spotlight

Today marked the launch of the all-new and improved StarWars.com. The official website of the Star Wars franchise has undergone a number of face-lifts over the last few years, but it looks like they have finally found a design that looks great and has great multimedia functionality.

Official Announcement:

Dear Star Wars fan,

As we begin a journey into an exciting new era of Star Wars, it’s time for a fully armed and operational online Star Wars experience. So we’re thrilled to let you know that Lucasfilm is launching an all-new StarWars.com — with movie, TV, and video game news, innovative features, and more in-depth original content than ever before.

And as a loyal StarWars.com visitor and Star Wars fan, we want you to be a part of it. Here’s how.

Introducing the Disney ID. You can register now for a Disney ID at StarWars.com, giving you exclusive access to upcoming special features, Force-filled digital experiences, and lots more. It will be your first step into a larger world of Star Wars. Disney sites, games, and interactive experiences will also be accessible.

As we transition to Disney ID, your existing StarWars.com account will be deleted. But don’t worry — your new Disney ID is more powerful than you could possibly imagine.

We look forward to seeing you at the new StarWars.com. Thank you.

StarWars.com. All Star Wars, all the time.

I am humbled to see that LightsaberRattling.com has been included on the “Community” page of StarWars.com with a number of other great fan groups, sites, and podcasts.

As the creator of the epic modern myth of Star Wars, George Lucas was much like Prometheus bringing fire to mankind. If mankind let that flame be extinguished then Prometheus’ gift would have been for naught.  Star Wars was George Lucas’ storytelling gift to us all, but it is the fans and now fans turned creators that have kept that flame alive.

I started LightsaberRattling.com and I continue to operate it  because I wanted a venue to be able to express my passion for Star Wars. If you look at the other sites listed in the community section, you will see the same thing across the board. If you share our passion for Star Wars, I would love to see you start your own blog, website, or podcast. I would love to interact with you on social media, but most of all I would love to encourage you to embrace your passions and use your leisure time for things that make you happy.

If you are new to this blog, I hope you enjoy it. My primary focus is on the storytelling in Star Wars. Look for literature, television, and film reviews. I do cover the news and provide my commentary and speculation based on what is released, but there are other sites like Jedi News and Making Star Wars that are the Clark Kent to my Jimmy Olsen when it comes to breaking news. You will also see reviews and commentary on merchandise as well as other genre entertainment from time to time.

LightsaberRattling has a sister site at RebelsReport.com and podcast, Rebels Report. That site and podcast cover the upcoming animated series, Star Wars Rebels. Some of the content from Rebels Report will be cross-posted here, but for the majority of that content you should visit that site.

It is an exciting time to be a Star Wars fan. I think the Force is with us.
