Jonny Mathers is a 7ft 3in Star Wars fan attempting to obtain a role in Star Wars Episode VII.  Mathers is the same height as the walking carpet we all know and love. As reported on 9-23-13, it appears Lucasfilm is casting someone in the same dimensions as the iconic character from Episodes III-VI.

According to this Metro1 article, he “tried his luck” for Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. Since they filmed in Australia and used Australian basketball players, Mathers was out of luck. It appears this man has held onto the dream of being a Wookiee for over ten years now, maybe longer. Will this be his chance to rip people’s arms out of their sockets?

The BBC is reporting on Mather’s attempt. Hopefully that public acknowledgement doesn’t hurt Mathers’ chances. But with his unique physique he might be in a place where it isn’t so easy to shut him out for being vocal.

According to the BBC they are looking for:

“Male, 7 ft to 7.3 ft tall with a slim/thin build and upright posture.

“Not too worked out or too ‘thick set’ especially in the shoulders. Broad facial features would be a bonus”.

Mathers’ mother called him when she heard the news of the casting call:

She said she’d heard the casting directors were looking for a 7ft 3 male and we twigged it was Star Wars,” he said.

“There can’t be that many roles for blokes my height and I’d love to be in it, no matter what capacity.”

“It’d be my dream come true to be part of the latest instalment,” he said.

“I’ve been in contact with Spotlight [a website for professional acting jobs and auditions] and I’m taking things from there.

“I can’t say any more right now but this would be a great opportunity for me,” he said.

We love Peter Mayhew and we hope he gets to be Chewbacca again. But if he could use some help with the physical side of things, we saw give Mathers a shot, especially if he looks great in the costume.

We hope to have you back, Peter and good luck Jonny!
