Today’s spotlight is on Stephanie! You can find her on Tumblr.

One day, while searching the Ahsoka Tano tag on Tumblr, I found the most adorable fan art of Ahsoka wearing an R2-D2 dress. I immediately thought, “I have to shine the spotlight on this artist.” Preparing for New York Comic Con distracted me along the way, but Stephanie noticed that her artwork appeared as “Fan Art of the Week” and approached me through Facebook. I offered her the opportunity to be highlighted in the Star Wars Fan Artist Spotlight and here is that result!

If you know someone who is a fan of Star Wars and creates sketches or other works of art featuring Star Wars, direct them over to the Spotlight section of The Wookiee Gunner.

Tell us about yourself. My name is Stephanie (Stephy), a Disney girl and a huge Alice in Wonderland fan, who works as an Illustrator/Graphic Designer on daily basis, loves to draw/design cute – fun stuff as a hobby, and dreams on working someday for the Mouse or Star Wars.

When and how did you become a Star Wars fan? That’s a really long story to tell from the beginning, so I’ll go straight to the point:

Well, to start, my Dad is a huge Star Wars fan. One of my most favorite fondest memories was back in 2005 when we went together to watch the premiere of SW EPISODE III, and seriously…the excitement of the people sharing their love for Star Wars altogether inspired me so much, that we had an amazing experience and became a day to remember. If I wasn’t a fan before that day, I became one for sure. Three years later, Star Wars: The Clone Wars introduced us to a new Togruta Padawan named Ahsoka Tano to this amazing universe and caught my interest again, especially for the animation and the joy of finally getting a new Jedi-Girl! The rest…is history.

What tools do you use to create your art? Watercolors and digital are my favorite tools. I use oil when I work on paintings, and most importantly, imagination.

Ahsoka R2-D2 Dress by Stephanie Gutierrez

What is your favorite Star Wars piece that you have created and why are you fond of it?
Recently, I have been drawing Ahsoka Tano a lot, and “AHSOKA R2-D2 DRESS” represents both sides of my personal style: Cute – Fun. This particular piece was a lot of fun to draw, to be honest. I mean, who wouldn’t love to wear that beautiful R2-D2 dress and get chased by Artoo itself? One can only dream!

What’s the best and worst thing about being an artist?
The best: unlimited possibilities. Being able to be creative and translate that idea to a piece of paper is the most beautiful feeling of being an artist for me. There is always something new you want to try or learn and imagination is endless. It’s been also an opportunity to meet new friends and learn new styles.

The worst: I think some other artists share the same feeling when your idea doesn’t come up exactly like you imagine it (sometimes it happens), but it gets better with practice. The point is to never give up.

Star Wars Rebels comes out next year. What are some of your theories concerning the plot or characters? What are you looking forward to seeing the most?
The animation, mostly. I really hope to see characters from The Clone Wars, like Rex, Ahsoka Tano and Ventress, making a return to the series and maybe working together as a team. That would be really cool to watch.

Are you looking forward to the future Star Wars films? What are your hopes or worries?
I’m very positive about the future of the Star Wars films. I really believe this project is in good hands, and hopefully they won’t disappoint us.

Any final thoughts? Thank you so much for this amazing opportunity. Oh! And May the Force be with you!

May the Force be with you, Stephy! Here’s hoping your dream of working with Mickey or Star Wars comes true. Always strive to better yourself and who knows where it’ll take you. Personally, I’m looking forward to seeing more of your work, especially when it comes to Star Wars. You have a very cutesy style that is very appealing to the eyes and definitely has much potential. Good luck and stay in touch!
