Force Friday Galactic Madness
For the sake of ultimate transparency, I've never been a huge Star Wars fan. In fact, I've been known to commit the act of blasphemy, in loving the second trilogy...
Star Wars Weekends (SWW) at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World Resort allows fans to celebrate the Star Wars culture with special events and appearances by various talents from across the Star Wars spectrum. SWW 2014 will contain a lineup unlike those of previous years and fans in attendance will be in for a special ride.
To kick off the tradition from years past, voice actor James Arnold Taylor (Obi-Wak Kenobi from Star Wars: The Clone Wars) will host this year’s event. Additionally, Ashley Eckstein (Ahsoka Tano from Star Wars: The Clone Wars and creator of Her Universe) will host a special show every weekend, entitled “Behind the Force.” Ashley’s show will bring main cast members from Star Wars Rebels onto the stage.
The current lineup for Star Wars Weekends 2014 includes:
Ahmed Best: Jar Jar Binks
Peter Mayhew: Chewbacca
Vanessa Marshall: Hera Syndulla
Warwick Davis: Wicket
Jeremy Bulloch: Boba Fett
Tiya Sircar: Sabine Wren
Ray Park: Darth Maul
John Ratzenberger: Major Bren Derlin
Taylor Gray: Ezra Bridger
Mark Hamill: Luke Skywalker
Ray Park: Darth Maul
Billy Dee Williams: Lando Calrissian
Taylor Gray: Ezra Bridger
Dee Bradley Baker: Captain Rex/the Clones
Cat Taber: Padmé Amidala
Tom Kane: Yoda
Matt Lanter: Anakin Skywalker
Steve Blum: Zeb Orrelios
According to the Disney Parks Blog, Weekend V will have the most Star Wars celebrities at one time, which is more than what past events had featured.
With the voice actors for Sabine Wren and Hera Syndulla present at this year’s event, that boosts the female representation slightly higher than seen in previous years. This year will also be Ashley Eckstein’s fifth year in a row at Star Wars Weekends, since she attended 2009-2013. With rumors of a female lead for Star Wars: Episode VII, it is with great hope that future Star Wars Weekends include more females from the galaxy far, far away.
Unfortunately for me, I won’t be attending this year’s Star Wars Weekends. I would love to, considering that this is the first year with Star Wars Rebels cast members present for the event. I would also love to go because I’ve never participated before. I don’t know what year will be my first Star Wars Weekends, but I hope it’s in the near future. If you are planning to attend, I hope you have heaps of fun and make sure to snap lots of pictures for those of us who are unable to spend a Weekend celebrating what we love most.
