Avengers Confidential:
Black Widow & Punisher
Marvel, in conjunction with anime producer Madhouse, will be releasing another original animated movie, Avengers Confidential: Black Widow & Punisher, on Blu-ray ($26.99 list price) and DVD ($19.99) on March 25.
(Madhouse and Marvel previously teamed up for Iron Man: Rise of Technovore and other Marvel Anime collections.)
Black Widow (voiced by Jennifer Carpenter) and the Punisher (voiced by Brian Bloom) team up alongside Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, and the rest of the Avengers after the Punisher is apprehended by S.H.I.E.L.D. They need to stop Leviathan, a terrorist organization stealing S.H.I.E.L.D. technology and selling it to the highest bidder. The 83-minute anime-style movie is directed by Kenichi Shimizu, with a story by Marjorie Liu and screenplay by Mitsutaka Hirota, and rated PG-13. Here’s the trailer:
The releases will include two featurettes: “Espionage and Punishment” explores the creation of this movie and the versions of the characters used with concept art and storyboards. “The Vigilante Vs. The Spy” looks at the “dark and complex origins” of Frank Castle (The Punisher) and Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow). The Blu-ray also has a conceptual art gallery.
